A Sea Turtle Picture A day # 120

Welcome Back to a Sea Turtle Picture A Day. Today we are heading down to the British Virgin Islands. This is a picture of a Leatherback hatchling right before a wave caries it out on the next phase in its journey of survival. I would love to be on this beach in 10-15 years and be able to see this hatchling return as a nesting female to start this circle of a a Sea Turtles life all over again.

A Sea Turtle Picture A day # 118

Welcome back to A Sea Turtle Picture A Day. Today we are going to head back down to The British Virgin Islands. My motivation in picking this picture is after watching the Leatherback turtles move from off the coast of Canada all the way to the Caribbean in the great turtle race.
Hopefully this newly hatched turtle will be able to survive the race out into the surf and the first few years to be able to compete in an upcoming great turtle race 10-15 years from now.

A Sea Turtle Picture A day # 117

Welcome Back to A Sea Turtle Picture A Day. Today we are heading back down to Mexico to the nesting beach in Colima.
This picture needs no explanation . When I came upon this turtle We really could not tell what had caused its death. I was asked by the biologist that is running the research station to travel the 10 plus miles of beach that she and her team patrol for turtles and take a picture of all the ones that did not make it. This was not a task that I really wanted to do and was really amazed how many turtles had died along this stretch of beach.
