Welcome back. Today we are heading down to Rocky Point Sonora Mexico. This picture is of a Hawksbill Sea Turtle that has a satellite transmitter on its back. This female turtle was caught by fishermen and brought to a marine school. It lived here for 9 years. A researcher convinced the school that they should release this turtle and follow its movements with a satellite tag.

This picture was taken with a Nikon D-100 camera with a 20-200 mm lens.

Welcome back to A Sea Turtle Picture A Day. Today we are heading down to Rocky Point Mexico. This picture is of a Hawksbill sea turtle that has a satellite transponder attached to its shell.

This Female Hawksbill was held in captivity here for 8 years after being caught in a fisherman's net. She is the first adult Hawksbill to have a satellite transponder attached to her in the Eastern Pacific.

A Sea Turtle picture a day # 67

Welcome back to A Sea Turtle Picture A Day. Today we are heading down south of the border to a private school in Rocky Point. The reason we are here is to help with the release of a an adult female Hawksbill that has been in captivity there for 8 years. This turtle was caught by local fishermen and brought to the school. We were there to attach a satellite transmitter to her shell to track her movements once we released her.
As you can tell by the picture this was a very big event in this little city.
She is currently still transmitting and is just south of Loreto which is in the Baja Peninsula.

a turtle photo a day: Day #4

Welcome back. Today we are going to be heading back down to Mexico to a little town called Rocky Point.It is about 2.5 hours south of Phoenix Arizona.
The reason I was there was for a turtle release. This was not just a regular release. This female Hawksbill( Eretmochelys imbricata)
was caught by local fishermen 8 years earlier. She has been held at a local school.
The release of this female turtle was a historic one. She is the first adult Hawksbill sea turtle to be released with a satellite transponder in the Eastern Pacific.
As you can tell by the photo there were a lot of people in attendance for her release.
